This Friday starts the most important fashion week in Madrid, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, an event much awaited by all fashion lovers and has a huge media display. As in other major cities such as Paris, London, Milan or New York, the MBFW is a key event in the universe of fashion, as designers and brands try to strengthen and show their best designs.
The great Spanish fashion catwalk celebrates its 69th edition this year to present the different collections of the Autumn-Winter 2019 season. Last year’s edition coincided with the premiere of the documentary by one of our favourite bastards, the great Spanish brand designer Manolo Blahnik. Although the Canarian designer does not follow this type of catwalk, we wanted to pay tribute to him, as he is one of the most important figures in Spanish fashion and design. And, of course, Blahnik has a room with his name in our hostel in Malasaña, for his philosophy and his trajectory as a real fashion bastard.
The great shoe craftsman, for fashion lovers, Manolo Blahnik is a true icon of the footwear world and is our most international designer. The name of the shoe craftsman is synonymous with good taste and the shoe company is one of the most prestigious in the world. A small retrospective: our most bastard designer was born in Las Palmas, an explosive mixture of Czech father and Canarian mother, nobody would have thought that the future artist would leave his native land to study something so distant from the world of fashion: International Law and Literature.
Fortunately for all lovers of his work, Blahnik ended up studying at the Louvre School of Fine Arts where he put the tip of his shoe (never better said) into the world of fashion by writing for Vogue magazine. And, then he met Diana Veerland, then editor of the U. S. fashion magazine edition and started the Blahnik dynasty in the world of fashion and madness for his `manolos´.
And it’s that, to speak of Blahnik is to speak of style and good taste. Their `manolos´ have conquered thousands of celebrities throughout their 48-year history and many consider them an immortal fashion icon. So much so that Manolo has never lacked prescribers of his brand, the singer of Like a Virgin, Madonna, went so far as to say that manolos “are better than sex“. But, without a doubt, the biggest showcase for his shoes is the mythical HBO series “Sex in New York“, where both Sarah Jessica Parker and her character, the crazy blonde hair writer Carrie Bradshaw, fell in love with Blahnik’s collection and got us to start dreaming and imagining ourselfs in a pair of manolos on our feet.
We have the honor to present to you room 107
